Julie Johnston Biography

 

Motivational Speaker Julie Johnston is a professional soccer player for the Chicago Red Stars and is also a member of the U.S. Women’s National Team. Julie’s relentless defense helped propel the United States to a 5-2 victory over Japan in the 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup. The victory ended the 16-year World Cup title drought for the USWNT, gaining redemption from the heartbreaking loss to Japan in the 2011 FIFA Women’s World Cup Final. In addition to her superb performance on defense, Julie posted three goals throughout the 2015 tournament, coming in matches against France, New Zealand, and Ireland.

Julie attended Santa Clara University to play for the Broncos’ women’s soccer team. Enrolling in 2010, Julie would make an impact right away for the Broncos. She was named the West Coast Conference Freshman of the Year and led the team with five assists. In her breakout sophomore season, Julie started all 21 matches, leading the team with nine goals and 4 assists (including four game-winning goals). Julie was a finalist for the MAC Hermann Trophy, awarded to the best male and female soccer players in the country and was named as a First-Team All American. In 2012, Julie was named the U.S. Soccer Young Female Athlete of the Year and once again was a finalist for the Hermann Trophy.

Julie’s first international experience came in 2012 where she was the captain of the Under-20 U.S. Women’s National Team and led the team to the 2012 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup. Prior to joining the USWNT, Motivational Speaker Julie Johnston also represented the U.S. in the U-23 2013 Four Nation’s tournament in Spain.

After a successful collegiate career, Sports Speaker Julie was selected in the first round of the 2014 National Women’s Soccer League by the Chicago Red Stars. In her first season with the team, Julie appeared in 21 matches and recorded 2 goals; her performance won her the 2014 NWSL Rookie of the Year award  Motivational Speaker Julie Johnston is available for personal appearances including meet & greets and moderated Q&A.
